KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech erased a 22-point deficit to force overtime, but Lewis-Clark State spoiled the K-12 Field Trip Day with an 82-78 victory at Danny Miles Court.
The Warriors (16-5, 10-3 CCC) made 10 of their first 11 shots on the night to stun the partisan crowd and had to withstand two late Tech chances to claim the road win.
Dylan Skaife and Jamare Childs each hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes, with a Payton Nordland triple giving the visitors a 33-11 lead.
OIT (15-6, 10-3) methodically battled back behind
Jackson Cooper, who scored a game-high 35 points. A lay-up by the junior cut the margin to 36-24, with the Owls trailing 47-32 at the half.
Tech pulled even in the second half after a 14-2 run, with Cooper converting a tough 3-point play,
Garrett Osborne scored on a put back and
Colby Whicker canned a corner triple to tie the score at 53-53.
The energy was short-lived, as Skaife beat the shot-clock buzzer with a 30-foot 3-pointer, starting a 9-0 LC run. OIT would cut the margin to one point on three occasions, before
Owen Nathan banked home a runner inside the final minute of regulation to give the Owls their only lead of the night at 74-73. Grayson Hunt pulled down a key offensive rebound on the Warriors next possession and was fouled, splitting two free throws to tie the score and stopped a drive by Cooper in the final seconds to send the game to overtime.
John Lustig gave LC a lead they wouldn't relinquish in the extra session, scoring the first four points and held off the Owls, as a Cooper drive to tie the score with five seconds remaining rimmed out and the Warriors sealed the victory at the foul line.
Cooper had nine rebounds in the loss for Tech, as OIT finished 1-of-14 from 3-point range – just the sixth game with one made 3-pointer in the last 33 years.
Dakota Reber scored 12 and
Jared Sucher had 10 on the afternoon.
Lustig and Skaife each had 16 for the Warriors, with Childs scoring all 14 of his points in the first half.
The Owls return to action tomorrow night, hosting Walla Walla at 8:30 p.m.
