Sprague Scores 20, Lady Owls Dominate Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech closed the first quarter on a 24-4 run, riding a 58% shooting performance to an 85-43 victory at Warner Pacific to close out the first half of Cascade Conference play.

The Lady Owls (11-7, 7-3 CCC) improved to 4-0 in CCC road games this season, recording their fourth-straight win inside C.C. Perry Gymnasium by 30 points or more.

Olivia Sprague scored a season-high 20 points, including 9-straight points between the second and third quarters, part of a 21-0 run that blew the game open.

WPU (8-9, 4-6) made their first three shots, taking an early 8-2 advantage – but the visitors put the clamps down on the Knights. Ayla Marsten started the rally with a 3-pointer, Tatum Schmerbach had a lay-up and two free throws to give Tech their first lead. Avery Andrews added a 3-point play and Erika Glenn hit a triple and added a steal and basket, giving the Lady Owls a 26-12 lead at the quarter break.

Tech led 40-26 just before halftime – when Sprague took over. A long 3-pointer and a mid-range jumper gave the Owls a 19-point lead at the half, followed by consecutive baskets to start the third quarter. Kendall Fealey scored twice of Schmerbach passes and an Andrew inside bucket pushed the margin to 61-26 at the 5-minute mark of the period.

All 11 OIT players scored in the victory, as Glenn had a season-high seven and Maddie Eischen had a career-best eight points. Schmerbach had 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists – her 24th straight double-digit scoring game and moving the junior within 11 points of 1,000 for her career.

No WPU player scored in double-figures, as Shielteal Watah led the Knights with nine points. The Lady Owls held a commanding 41-20 edge on the glass and held their fifth opponent this season under 50 points.

The Lady Owls open the second half of the CCC season on Friday, traveling to Northwest for a 5:30 tip – live on 104.3/960 Sports.
