KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech opened up a 5-match homestand with an inspired performance, but were unable to find the net in a 0-0 draw with Westcliff University at the OIT Soccer Field.
The Lady Owls (2-1-1) peppered the net with 12 shots in the final 45 minutes – including nine chances inside the last 15 minutes – but the squad from Irvine, Calif., held strong inside the 18.
The two sides played an even first half – with Tech getting a quality chance in the opening minute, as a
Sydney Soskis cross against the run of play found
Ryane Mattox in the left side of the box, but her 15-yard strike missed left. The Warriors (2-0-1), the first team listed in the Others' Receiving Votes category in the NAIA Top-25, had their best chance in the 15th minute, as a Jordyn Gather 20-yard shot missed just high.
After withstanding two scoring chances by Westcliff in the first five minutes of the second half, OIT took control of the match. The Owls got two key corner kick chances – generating multiple shot attempts – including a
Miranda Valle 20-yard strike saved by WU keeper Kayli Cokley and a
Solei Elletson touch off the left post.
The Owls finished with a 15-7 edge in shots, including a 12-4 edge in the second half. Tech keepers
Emma Beavin and
Elle Hillar split time in goal – with Hillar making three saves in the second half. Cokley had four saves for the Warriors.
OIT returns to action on Monday, hosting Hope International at 10 a.m.
