KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Second half goals from
Jaylee Curran and
Makahl Chambers provided Oregon Tech all the offense they needed, as the Lady Owls closed out non-league play with a 2-0 victory over Simpson University.
OIT (4-1-1) dominated the second half, holding an 11-2 edge in total shots – improving to 23-0-2 all-time against the Redding side.
The Owls took the lead just four minutes into the second half, as Curran collected a free ball 35-yards from goal in the middle of the pitch and launched a looping shot over Redhawks (1-3-1) keeper Iris Van Dalfsen into the top shelf for the go-ahead tally.
SU nearly tied the game in the 56th minute, as Taylor Brooks pounced on a deflected ball in the left side of the 6-yard-box and ripped a shot to the middle of the goal – but Tech defender
Ariela Sanchez-Hermosillo touched the ball off the line and keeper
Elle Hillar pounced on the rebound to preserve the lead.
Tech added to the margin in the 69th minute – as
Sydney Soskis played a ball in transition wide to Chambers, who hammered a 15-yard shot into the top right corner of the net.
OIT nearly had a third goal, but a pretty combination ending in a
Claire Cowan goal was disallowed due to an offsides flag.
The Owls finished with a 16-8 edge in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks – will Hillar stopping four shots for the clean sheet.
Friday, Tech opens Cascade Conference play, hosting Northwest University at 12 p.m.
