Â
OFF TO INDIANA: Three members of the OIT track and field team have headed to Marion, Ind., for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan. The 3-day meet will feature 120 teams, competing in 23 events.
Â
LAST YEAR: Tech sent four athletes to last season's meet – with
Ally Odell placing 14th in the heptathlon,
Jose Ignacio placing 15th in the javelin,
Eli Stevens taking 16th in the pole vault and
Jonas Hartline placing 23rd in the 10,000-meters.
Â
ATHLETES: Eli Stevens has qualified in both the decathlon and the pole vault – his decathlon score of 6,668 points ranking No. 5 in the 16-athlete field. The junior will be competing for the first time since an injury at the Cascade Conference Multi-Event meet forced him to withdraw after two events.
Tyas Selby hit the "A" standard in the pole vault, with his clearance of 4.95 meters ranking No. 9 in the field – though only one qualifier has a mark better than 5.05 meters.
Aurora Parsons hit the javelin provisional qualifying mark at the CCC Championships with a throw of 41.11 meters – eight feet off the No. 8 mark in the NAIA.
Â
EVENT HISTORY: Tech has previous national champions in all three events their athletes are competing in this week – as Bryant Sentman won the 2011 decathlon title, Bryan Quinn won the 2004 pole vault title, with Joelle Swanson (2015) and Alex Conley (2023) winning javelin titles. OIT has recorded seven decathlon All-Americans, six men's pole vault All-Americans and 16 women's javelin All-Americans in program history.
