KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Zoe Allen lined a 2-out, walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting Oregon Tech to a 5-4 victory over British Columbia in Game 3 of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Stilwell Stadium.
The top-seeded Lady Owls (42-7) advance to tomorrow's semifinals, meeting third-seed Eastern Oregon, as the Mountaineers picked up a 3-0 win over Carroll and a 5-4 win over Southern Oregon. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
Addison Kachnik led off the decisive eighth inning by reaching on an error and moved to second when
Malia Mick was hit by a pitch. Two outs later, Allen roped a Shae Sever pitch just beyond the reach of UBC (23-17) shortstop Keona Nordquist – allowing Mick to score the game-winner.
The T-Birds, who claimed an 8-4 win over College of Idaho in the opening game of the day, took a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Nordquist led off the game with a double and scored on a Kaitlyn Eng single. Two innings later Marin Jorgenson singled home a run, with a second run scoring on the play due to an OIT error.
Tech answered in the bottom of the frame, loading the bases with no outs.
Jayce Seavert got the Owls on the board with an RBI single and
Puakea Milbourne tied the game with a 2-run single.
Marla Goodspeed capped the rally with a 2-out RBI single, giving OIT a 4-3 lead.
The lead would hold until the sixth, when Kennedy Ainge lined a pinch-hit RBI single to tie the score and chase Tech starter
Kacie Schmidt. Enter
Alli Parker, who stranded the bases loaded – retiring the final eight batters of the game in order.
Seavert was 3-for-4 and Allen had a pair of hits in the victory for OIT, who moved to 5-1 in extra inning games this season. Schmidt struck out six in five-plus innings, with Parker adding three strikeouts.
Sever took the loss for UBC, despite not allowing an earned run in five-plus innings of relief. Nordquist had a 3-hit game, with Eng and Kaitlyn Kim each recording two hits.
