KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Kacie Schmidt tossed a 2-hit shutout in the opener,
Marla Goodspeed hit for the cycle on the day, with
Zoe Allen and
Jayce Seavert tying single-game school records, as Oregon Tech earned 7-0 and 11-2 victories over Simpson University at Stilwell Stadium.
The No. 2-ranked Lady Owls (30-6) clinched their 13th-straight 30-win season with the victories, riding outstanding starting pitching and hitters that combined for nine extra-base hits in the twinbill.
Schmidt did not allow a runner to third base in the Game 1 win, surrendering two singles and two walks, while tying a season-high with 11 strikeouts.
OIT strung together three consecutive 2-out run scoring hits in the first –
Puakea Milbourne lining an RBI single,
Sawyer Stenson doubling home a run off the center field wall, with Goodspeed gapping an RBI double.
Tech added single runs in the third and fourth innings – getting a Stenson RBI single and a
Nita Cook sacrifice fly, before capping the scoring in the fifth on RBI singles from
Addison Kachnik and Cook.
Goodspeed was 2-for-3 with a double and triple, with Milbourne, Stenson and
Malia Mick each recording two hits. Seavert also hit a milestone with a third inning double, the 50th of her OIT career.
The Redhawks (21-18) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 2 on a Hollee Jamison double – but OIT would score 11-straight runs in a run-rule win.
Sacrifice flies from Seavert and Milbourne in the first were followed by an RBI double from Kachnik, giving Tech a 4-1 edge. An inning later, Kachnik doubled home a pair and scored on a
Jazmine Macias double, extending the margin to 7-1.
The Owls made it 11-1 in the third, as Seavert tied a record with her second sacrifice fly of the game, Stenson adding an RBI single and scored on a long 2-run blast from Goodspeed.
Jenna Gorden earned her first win of the season, allowing three hits in four innings of work. Goodspeed completed her day cycle with the homer and a first inning single, with Cook, Kachnik and Macias all posting two hits.
Allen was 2-for-3, tying a school record with four stolen bases in the victory – while her second inning single giving the senior 200 hits in her OIT career.
Tech hits the road this weekend for Saturday-Sunday games at Warner Pacific in Milwaukie, Ore.
