KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Tim Williams tossed six shutout innings and the Oregon Tech offense scored in five of their six offensive innings, as the Hustlin' Owls clinched no worse than the No. 3 seed in the Cascade Conference Tournament with an 11-1 win over Bushnell at Steen Sports Park.
Game 2 of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended in the top of the seventh inning due to rain – with the two teams locked in a 10-10 tie. The game is set to resume (weather permitting) on Saturday at 12 p.m. – with the regularly scheduled doubleheader to follow.
The Hustlin' Owls (34-11, 25-9 CCC) ran their win streak to 14 games behind the gem from Williams, as the OIT ace held a potent Beacons attack to a pair of singles.
Tech bolted to a 4-0 lead in the first – as
Matthew Ortiz singled home a pair of runs and
Keanu Mizuta doubled home another in the early outburst.
OIT scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings – as
Patrick Barry scored on a throwing error in the second,
Tyler Horner doubled home a run in the fourth and
Ka'ala Tam knocked in a fifth inning run with a sacrifice fly.
The Owls put the game away in the sixth, loading the bases with one out – with
Logan Macy drawing a bases-loaded walk, followed by a 3-run double from Tam – extending the lead to 11-0.
Will Hudler averted the shutout for the Beacons (31-16, 21-13), scoring on a seventh inning wild pitch – but Bushnell stranded a runner at third (which would have extended the game) as Tech claimed the run-rule victory.
Barry was 3-for-3 with four runs scored, with Horner and
Korrey Siracusa each recording two hits.
Game 2 was a slugfest – as both clubs scored four first inning runs. Tied 8-8 in the sixth, Bushnell took the lead on a wind-aided 2-run single from Cade Crist, while Tech tied the game on a 2-out dropped fly ball during a deluge of rain.
The umpires pulled the teams off the field in the seventh – and following a 44-minute delay – suspended the game until Saturday.
