Bushnell Tops Owls, 14-12, in 29-Hour Marathon Game

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A wet, wild, back-and-forth 29-hour marathon finished with Bushnell University plating four runs in the top of the ninth inning to snap Oregon Tech's 14-game win streak, as the Beacons defeated the Hustlin' Owls, 14-12, in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Steen Sports Park.

The contest was suspended due to rain on Friday afternoon, with rain forcing the contest to resume a full day after the original stoppage. Game 3 and Game 4 were moved to Sunday, with the two teams now closing the regular season with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.

Tied at 10-10, the Owls (34-12, 25-10 CCC) scratched across a pair of eighth inning runs – as Ka'ala Tam singled home a run and Keanu Mizuta driving in another with a sacrifice fly to the wall in center.

The Beacons (32-16, 22-13) answered in the ninth, as Jamison Hussey lined a pinch-hit RBI single, Albert Jennings tied the game with a fielders' choice and Will Hudler drove in the go-ahead run with a 2-out RBI single.

A day ago, both teams scored four runs in the first inning – as BU got an 2-run single from Jordan Wilson and Kolby Amaral doubled home a pair, but Tech answered with a Matthew Ortiz bases loaded walk, a Garrett Smith RBI single and a 2-run Ty Blakely single.

OIT took a 5-4 lead in the second after Patrick Barry tripled and scored on a Julien Jones sacrifice fly, but the visitors scored four in the fourth inning, capped by a 2-run Jennings single to regain the lead at 8-5.

Not to be outdone, Ortiz doubled off the left field wall to plate one and Tam drove in two with a single, with the Owls 3-run fourth tying the score.

Just before Friday's stoppage, both teams took advantage of the elements to score two sixth inning runs – as a wind-aided 2-run single from Cade Crist gave the Beacons a lead, while a Tam pop up was dropped in the downpour, allowing two runs to score to tie the game.

Barry finished the game 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and four runs scored, with Tam going 3-for-5 with three RBI.
