GREAT FALLS, Mont. –
Sawyer Stenson was 5-for-8 with two homers and five RBI, helping Oregon Tech sweep a doubleheader at the University of Providence at a windswept Highland Park.
The No. 2-ranked Lady Owls (11-3, 3-2 CCC) combined for 27 hits on a day where winds were blowing out to center field at over 30 miles per hour.
UP (5-5, 2-3) struck first in Game 1, taking a 2-0 first inning lead on a 2-run home run from Sydnee Weber. Tech answered in their next at bats, batting around for five runs – as
Marla Goodspeed started the rally with her first career homer, with
Malia Mick adding a run-scoring single and
Gina Allen singled home a pair.
The Argos pulled within 5-4 in the fourth on RBI doubles from Olivia Roe and Brynn Cullen, but Stenson hit a leadoff homer in the sixth and following a seventh inning 2-run single by Goodspeed, the transfer hit her second homer of the game to extend the lead to 10-4.
Allen was 2-for-4, with both Stenson and Goodspeed going 3-for-4 with three RBI in the win.
Kacie Schmidt struck out nine batters in six innings of work to notch the victory.
OIT never trailed in Game 2 – taking a 6-0 lead in the second and rolled to the run-rule victory.
Puakea Milbourne gave the Owls a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single, while RBI singles from Allen and Stenson in the second added to the margin.
Milbourne and
Addison Kachnik ripped run-scoring doubles in the fourth inning to make it 8-1, while in the sixth, Tech plated five – getting RBI doubles from Stenson, Mick and
Leah Huffman.
Carli Moore allowed two runs on five hits in three-plus innings to record the win.
The two teams close out the series tomorrow with a 10 a.m. doubleheader.
