PORTLAND, Ore. –
Patrick Barry extended his record hitting streak to 36 games, combining for four hits on the day, as Oregon Tech split a doubleheader with Warner Pacific at Joe Etzel Field.
The Hustlin' Owls (15-5, 6-3 CCC) had their 7-game win streak snapped in a 7-4 loss in Game 1, before bouncing back to take the series final, 7-2.
Barry led off the opener with a sharply hit single, while in Game 2, the shortstop dropped down a perfect third inning bunt – rolling dead on the third base line – to extend his streak.
Tech took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1 on a
Tyler Horner solo homer – his league-leading ninth of the season. However, WPU (4-10, 3-6) capitalized on three walks and a hit-by-pitch followed by a Jarrod Seibel grand slam home run – part of a 6-run frame for the hosts.
The Owls tried to battle back, getting a
Matthew Ortiz RBI double in the fifth, with an Ortiz sacrifice fly and a
Ka'ala Tam RBI single in the seventh pulling OIT within 7-4 – but couldn't get closer.
Barry was 3-for-4, with Horner, Ortiz and Tam each posting two hits in the loss. WPU starter Connor Hale earned the win, striking out nine in six innings of work.
In the nightcap,
Carson Glavich threw six strong innings and
Riley Cronin tossed three shutout frames, helping Tech claim a series win.
An RBI single from Tam gave the Owls a 1-0 first inning lead, with a second run scoring on a Knights throwing error. Tech added to the lead in the third on a
Julien Jones sacrifice fly and an Ortiz RBI single, while an inning later,
Logan Macy lined an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-1, with two runs added on WPU errors.
Glavich held WPU to two runs on six innings for his third win, with Cronin fanning three in notching his league-leading fourth save.
OIT returns to action next weekend, traveling to British Columbia for a 4-game series.
