KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Dakota Reber and
Jackson Cooper posted double-doubles and the Oregon Tech defense held The Evergreen State College to 25% shooting on the night, as the Hustlin' Owls opened Cascade Conference play with an 89-53 victory at Danny Miles Court.
Reber scored 23 points with 11 rebounds – including five dunks – with Cooper narrowly missing a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists in the Owls (6-3, 1-0 CCC) 19th-straight win over their league rival.
Jared Sucher scored 19 points, converting 3-of-6 3-point attempts – including a long triple, part of a 7-point first half run – as OIT used a 13-2 surge to build a 17-7 lead.
The Owls led 30-20 with five minutes left in the half, but
Owen Nathan had a steal and basket and followed by a driving lay-up – starting a 11-0 run – extending the lead to 43-24 at the half.
OIT stretched the lead to 54-28 on a Sucher 3-ball, but the Geoducks (0-3, 0-1) caught fire, as Tony Frohlich-Fair converted a 3-point play and drained back-to-back triples, getting the visitors within 60-46 with 11 minutes left.
From there, it was all Tech – outscoring TESC 29-6 the rest of the way – with Reber slamming home a trio of dunks in a 15-0 run that broke the game open.
The Hustlin' Owls made 54% of their field goals and held a 54-33 edge in rebounds.
Grant Tull scored eight,
Gylan Payne had five points and seven rebounds, with Nathan scoring four points with five rebounds.
Frohlich-Fair scored 18 points and Bradley Graham scored 10 in the loss for Evergreen.
Tech closes out the weekend tomorrow at 5 p.m. – hosting Northwest University.
