CALDWELL, Idaho – An early goal from
Sydney Soskis gave Oregon Tech an early lead on the No. 4-ranked team in the NAIA, but host College of Idaho tallied four second half goals to pull away for a 5-1 Cascade Conference win at Simplot Stadium.
Facing the defending national semifinalist, the Lady Owls (7-5-2, 3-4-1 CCC) became the first time in a year to score first against C of I on their home field – as Soskis collected a loose ball, made a move to her left and drove a left-footed strike from 25-yards into the top right corner of the goal.
Tech held the lead until the 27th minute, as the Coyotes (11-2, 6-1) pulled even after a Allison Moultray shot was stopped initially by keeper
Emma Beavin, but the ball tricked to the charging Gianna Yslava, who slotted home the rebound.
C of I took the lead early in the second half, taking advantage of a failed OIT clearance, with Natasja Davis playing a cross to the back post, finding Abbi Roubidoux for the go-ahead strike.
OIT had two chances to tie – but Alivia Brenchley made stops on shots from Soskis and
Chloe Cook – before Eden Makaafi scored twice in the final 20 minutes to put the game out of reach.
The Yotes ended the day with a 26-5 edge in shots and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Owls return home next week, hosting Bushnell and Corban.
