KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech went toe-to-toe with Cascade Conference leading Eastern Oregon, but a second half goal from Daniel Kropf was the difference, as the Mountaineers topped the Owls, 1-0, at Community Stadium.
Following a scoreless first half, EOU (9-0-4, 6-0-2 CCC) capitalized in the 57th minute on a great 30-yard run down the left side by Jesus Alvarez. Alvarez got to end line inside the box – touching a pass to Kropf at the top of the 6-yard-box who hit a low shot to the bottom right corner of the goal for the go-ahead tally.
The Owls (5-3-4, 3-3-1) found valiantly, as
Eric McGuire had two chances inside the final 12 minutes – a header off a free kick that was saved over the crossbar by EOU keeper Anthony Lemus, while with two minutes left – a hard flick to the right post was saved off the line by a Mountie defender.
EOU finished the night with a 14-9 edge in shots and a 4-3 edge in corners. Lemus made two saves in the victory, while Tech's
Harvey Bolland had three saves.
OIT returns to action tomorrow with an 8 p.m. (MDT) date at College of Idaho.
