Lady Owls Battle No. 14 LC State, Fall in Four Sets

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech and Lewis-Clark State battled in a back-and-forth slugfest, with the Lady Owls winning the opening set, but the Warriors rallying to win the final three sets to claim the Cascade Conference victory at Danny Miles Court.
 
No. 14-ranked LC (11-3, 8-3 CCC) opened the second half of the league season with a 23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-22 win, a match-up that featured 35 ties in the four sets.
 
Set 1 was epic, as the two teams recorded 21-straight tie scores (from 3-3 to 23-23), before the Lady Owls (9-9, 3-8) earned set point after a Savanna Sterck kill and claimed the win following an LC hitting error.
 
Tech continued the momentum in Set 2, jumping to a 4-0 lead on two Sterck spikes, but the Warriors countered with a combo-block from setter Teagan Scott and middle Abby Beaton, establishing an 18-14 lead. Tech got even at 23-23 on a Sterck kill, but CCC kills leader, Juliauna Forgach Aguilar earned set point with a kill and LC won the set on an OIT hitting error.
 
The Warriors broke a 16-16 tie in Set 3 thanks to a 7-0 run, helped by two kills and a block from Karissa Lindner, while in Set 4, Beaton and Scott teamed for two blocks to break a 17-17 stalemate to close out the match.
 
Sterck had a huge night for the Lady Owls, finishing with 19 kills, with Willow Jacobson posting 10 and Aleksen Thayer ending with eight. Lucy Boyd had 38 assists for OIT and Abigail Sorensen had 18 digs.
 
Forgach Aguilar had 18 kills and nine digs, Taylor Boyce had 17 kills and Lindner added 11 kills and five blocks for LC, with Scott recording 47 assists and five blocks and libero Ella Stosich led all players with 28 digs.
 
OIT returns to action tomorrow night, hosting Walla Walla at 8 p.m.
