KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Huge nights from
Molly Grace,
Aleksen Thayer and
Lucy Boyd paved the way for an Oregon Tech sweep of Northwest University, as the Lady Owls extended a win streak to three with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-21 victory at Danny Miles Court.
Grace recorded 21 kills and 13 digs – becoming the fourth OIT (10-7, 3-6 CCC) player in program history to record 21-or-more kills in a 3-set match – finishing the night with a .545 hitting percentage.
Thayer was one block away from the Owls first kills-blocks double-double in 14 years – ending the evening with 10 kills and nine blocks.
Boyd was instrumental in orchestrating the attack, recording four kills, 43 assists, eight digs and six blocks – the most assists in a 3-set match since 2015.
"The team was able to carry over what we did in yesterday's win into today," said OIT head coach
Alexis Garrison. "Molly was a stand-out player, with Lucy leading our offense. Our block helped us at pivotal moments. We have found our rhythm and I am proud of them."
Grace dominated Set 1, recording 11 kills without an error – but the Eagles (7-10, 2-7) clawed back in the period, cutting a deficit to 22-21 on an Aubrey Dees kill. Tech answered with 3-straight points – kills from
Savanna Sterck,
Willow Jacobson and a NU hitting error to close out the set win.
OIT bolted to an 8-2 lead in Set 2, getting two aces from
Abigail Sorensen and two Jacobson kills, only to see the visitors get within 16-15 on an Allie Van Berkum aces. Thayer turned the tide for Tech with three kills, part of an 8-1 run to end the period.
NU was in position to extend the match in Set 3, scoring the first six points – three coming on aces from Allie Flynn. OIT countered behind their block – as Thayer had a stuff block and assisted on two others, part of a OIT flurry that gave the hosts a 12-11 lead. The two sides were tied at 20-20, before kills from Boyd, Grace and Jacobson were followed by a combo block and a Grace kill to end the match.
Tech finished with a 13.5-5 edge in blocks and had a 50-28 lead in kills.
Dees had seven kills and Morgan Harter posted 23 assists and 12 digs in the loss for the Eagles.
OIT hits the road for their next five matches – beginning Wednesday night at Southern Oregon.
