Second Half Rally Helps Hustlin' Owls Past Multnomah

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Two second half goals erased a Multnomah halftime lead, as Oregon Tech ended a three-game losing streak with a physical 2-1 win at the OIT Soccer Field.

The Hustlin' Owls used a 24-7 edge in shot attempts and a 10-4 edge in corner kicks to generate momentum in the offensive third – eventually breaking through after the break.

For the second-straight day, Tech fell behind in the first half – as Jaren Bowler struck a low 30-yard shot at OIT keeper Ryan Solis, but the senior was unable stop the strike, giving the visitors a lead just 20 minutes in.

The Owls got even early in the second half, as Bridger Meyer made a run down the left side, playing cross to the top of the 6-yard-box, finding a sliding Merrick Tambio for his first collegiate goal.

Tech got the eventual game-winner in the 70th minute, as a foul in the box off a set piece gave the Owls a penalty kick, with Andrew Pasang converting from 12-yards out to give the hosts their first lead of the weekend.

A physical game that featured 39 fouls and eight cards saw OIT reduced to 10 men with 10 minutes remaining – but the Owls withstood three quality opportunities by the Lions (2-4, 0-2), including a Jonathan Gaspar 20-yard free kick inside the final 20 seconds to complete the win.

"We dealt with adversity today and didn't fold or crumble," said OIT head coach Sean McManamon. "We stayed true to our game and the result showed that. I was pleased with our four freshmen who played today and rose up to the occasion."

The Owls return to the pitch on Friday, traveling to Corban for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
