LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State spoiled a career milestone from
Kaley Whalen, as the host Warriors topped Oregon Tech 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17 inside the P1FCU Activity Center.
Whalen had a match-high 21 digs, pushing her career total to 1,018 – becoming the tenth player in OIT (7-7, 0-6 CCC) history to post 1,000 digs in a career. However, the Warriors used a .265 attack percentage in picking up the win.
LC (9-3, 6-1) rode outside hitters Taylor Boyce (22 kills) and Juliana Forgach-Aguilar (20 kills) throughout the match – using big runs throughout. The pair had consecutive kills to break a 17-17 tie in Set 1, as the Warriors did not relinquish the lead the rest of the set.
The Owls battled back from a 12-4 deficit in Set 2, getting a pair of kills from both
Savanna Sterck and
Lex Boccia, along with aces from Whalen and
Abigail Sorensen – part of a 16-5 run that helped Tech even the match.
The Warriors put the match away with big runs in Set 3 and Set 4 – as Aguilar had six kills in a 19-11 start to Set 3, with Boyce recording 4-straight kills in an opening 15-6 run in Set 4.
Molly Grace had 13 kills and 14 digs, with Sterck recording 15 kills for Tech. Setter
Lucy Boyd recorded career-highs with 44 assists and 15 digs in the loss.
OIT looks to snap a 6-match losing streak tomorrow night at Walla Walla.
