KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Two goals in a two-minute span late in the first half helped Warner Pacific outlast Oregon Tech, 2-1, in the Cascade Conference men's soccer opener for both teams.
The Knights (5-1, 1-0 CCC) had just three shots on frame in the match – but made them count, as Tech held a 17-8 edge in total chances.
OIT (3-3, 0-1) keeper
Ryan Solis made a big stop early, denying a Brendon Leach penalty kick in the 12th minute. Unfortunately for the hosts, a 40th minute foul in the box gave WPU another chance from the spot, with Pedro Calderon finding the net for a 1-0 lead.
Moments later, Calderon played a through-ball on a counter-attack to the charging Musa Jatta, who calmly finished inside the left post for a two-goal lead.
Tech held the run of play throughout the second half, cutting the margin to 2-1 in the 61st minute, as
Arthur Proost headed home a short
Merrick Tambio cross from the right side. The Owls would have a pair of corner kick chances inside the final 25 minutes, but could not find the equalizer.
The physical affair featured 20 fouls, with both squads recording five corner kicks.
The Owls will look to snap a 3-match losing streak tomorrow, hosting Multnomah at 2:30 p.m.
