KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Playing their third Top-10 team in five matches, Oregon Tech got nine kills from
Courtney Green and five blocks from
Aleksen Thayer, but No. 9-ranked Corban rode a 54-30 edge in kills to a 25-20, 25-15, 26-24 victory at Danny Miles Court.
The Warriors (9-1, 5-0 CCC) kept sole possession of first-place in the league standings as the lone unbeaten team in the conference. Kendra Bittle recorded 15 kills and Emma Bischoff posted 10 kills and 19 digs in the road win.
Tech (7-6, 0-5) stayed close in a tight Set 1 – featuring 10 ties and five lead changes. A Green kill tied the score at 18-18, but the Corban defense forced 3-straight OIT hitting errors in a 7-2 run to end the frame.
Corban never trailed in Set 2, as Bittle recorded three kills in an 8-3 opening run, extending the lead to 19-11 in the set win.
The visitors were poised for a sweep, but the Owls erased a 22-17 deficit with 6-straight points – capped by a
Kaley Whalen ace and a
Molly Grace kill – with a Grace kill giving Tech set point at 24-23. The Warriors earned a side out on a Bittle kill and forced consecutive OIT hitting errors to claim the match win.
Whalen led all players with 25 digs – moving within three digs of becoming the tenth OIT player with 1,000-digs in an OIT career. Abby Guindy posted a double-double for Corban, finishing with 27 assists and 13 digs.
OIT hits the road next weekend with matches at Lewis-Clark State and Walla Walla.
