2024 Howard Morris Athletics Hall of Fame Class Revealed

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Three All-America student-athletes and a pair of longtime coaches make up the 2024 induction class of the Oregon Tech Howard Morris Athletic Hall of Fame, presented by Quail Mountain and Pepsi.

The induction luncheon is set for Nov. 17 in the College Union on the OIT campus – specific details, including tickets, will be released in September. In addition, the new Hall of Fame members will be honored the night before during halftime of the men's basketball game vs. Arizona Christian.

Men's basketball players, Drew Schubert and Doc Earl, will be joined by two-sport standout, Mark Kane, in the elite club. The trio will be joined by longtime coach and administrator, Mary Bradford, along with former baseball standout and longtime coach, Bill Fagan, for their meritorious service.

"We are excited to welcome back some of the great players from the 70s and 80s," said OIT athletic director, John Van Dyke. "In addition, Mary and Bill have been among the most respected coaches in Oregon Tech history and I am looking forward to hearing their stories from their time at Tech."

Schubert was a 3-year starter for the men's basketball team, helping the Hustlin' Owls to the 1979 NAIA National Tournament – their second appearance in program history. The 3-time All Evergreen Conference and 2-time All-NAIA District II pick averaged 16.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists during his career, connecting on 53-percent of his field goals – ranking No. 8 all-time in program history in scoring (1,420 points). He earned All-America honors as a junior, averaging 18 points per game in helping his club to the district title.

Earl spent two seasons with the Hustlin' Owls, with his 1987 campaign among the best seasons in program history – leading Tech to the District II crown along with the program's first-ever NAIA Tournament victory. He averaged 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists per game, knocking down 55-percent of his field goals, earning All-NAIA District II, All-Little Northwest and NAIA All-America honors. Following his time at OIT, Earl had a distinguished professional basketball career in Australia.

Kane was a standout baseball and football player at Tech, earning all-conference honors in both sports. From 1981-83, Kane set records in baseball – helping the Owls to consecutive Evergreen Conference titles and a runner-up finish in the District II tournament – earning EvCo and District Player of the Year honors in 1982 after hitting .445 with 13 homers and 53 RBI. The 3-time All-EvCo and All-District pick had a career .377 batting average and a school-record 30 home runs. In football, Kane was a 2-time All-EvCo pick as a tight end, leading the Owls in receptions during both the 1980 and 1981 seasons, leading the team to a share of two EvCo titles. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 1982 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft.

Bradford was the pioneer of women's athletics at OIT over a 30-year career – serving as both a coach, professor and an administrator. She served as women's athletic director in the 1970s and 80s, the aquatics director in the 90s and 00s, while coaching volleyball for six years, basketball for 14 years and softball for 29 years. Teaming with current Hall of Fame coach Dan Miles for her final 10 years with the softball program, Bradford helped the Lady Owls to six Cascade Conference titles, along with an appearance in the 1997 NAIA National Tournament, earning Coach of the Year honors six times.

Fagan found success at Tech both as an athlete and a coach – earning All-Evergreen Conference and All-NAIA District II honors as a baseball player in the mid-1970s, while serving as an assistant in both baseball and softball for nearly 30 years. He assisted Bob Polski and Howard Morris with the baseball program for three seasons, before serving as assistant softball coach and eventually associate head coach of the program from 1996 to 2020. Fagan was an instrumental part of the 2011 Lady Owls team that won the NAIA National Championship.

Beginning in 2023, Quail Mountain Coffee and Distributing, along with Pepsi Cola Bottling of Klamath Falls, became the presenting sponsor of the Howard Morris Oregon Tech Athletic Hall of Fame.
