Lady Owls Sweep Bushnell, Run Win Streak to 10

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Nita Cook tripled twice and added a 3-run inside-the-park home run, helping Oregon Tech run their win streak to 10 with 13-2 and 11-1 wins at Bushnell University.

The No. 5-ranked Lady Owls (18-6, 9-2 CCC) pounded out 29 hits on the day, while getting quality starts from Kacie Schmidt and Mckenzie Staub.

Tech scored in all five innings in the opener – taking a 7-0 second inning lead. Cook opened the game with a single and scored on a Zoe Allen doubled. Puakea Milbourne and Jayce Seavert extended the margin to 3-0 with consecutive RBI singles. An inning later, Kaila Mick and Milbourne lined 2-run singles to extend the margin.

Suzi Krstic got the Beacons (6-19, 1-10) on the board with a second inning 2-run double – only to see Cook leg out her second inside-the-park homer of the season in the third to put the game away.

Five OIT players had 2-hit games – Cook, Milbourne, Addison Kachnik and both Kaila Mick and Malia Mick. Schmidt held BU to three hits, striking out five, to earn her ninth win.

OIT dominated Game 2 – taking advantage of a 2-out Beacons error in the first to grab a 2-0 lead. In the second, RBI triples from Kachnik and Cook pushed the Tech lead to 5-0, with Milbourne delivering a 2-run single in a 4-run sixth to extend the margin to 11-0.

Staub threw five shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out seven. Kaila Mick was 3-for-4 – her 7th-straight multi-hit game, with Cook, Allen, Milbourne, Staub and Kachnik each recording two hits.

The two teams close out the series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
