SPRINGFIELD, Ore. –
Nita Cook hit for the cycle between the two games, combining for five hits and six RBI, as Oregon Tech completed a 4-game sweep of Bushnell, claiming 15-5 and 8-0 victories at Rich Schwab Field.
The No. 5-ranked Lady Owls (20-6, 10-2 CCC) ran their win streak to 12-in-a-row, including 10-straight league victories.
"It was an outstanding weekend for us at the plate, as everyone from No. 1 to No. 9 in the batting order contributed in a big way," said OIT head coach
Greg Stewart. "
Nita Cook had an amazing weekend for us and
Mckenzie Staub was key in the circle, tossing 10 shutout innings."
Cook posted a single, double and her third inside-the-park home run of the season in Game 1 – driving in a career-high five runs, adding a single and triple in the Game 2 win. The sophomore finished the weekend 9-for-17 with 10 RBI.
OIT pounded out a season-high 17 hits in Game 1 – getting a
Puakea Milbourne RBI single in the first inning and Cook circling the bases to plate three on a drive down the line to give Tech a 4-0 lead.
The Beacons (6-21, 1-11) cut the lead to 4-3 in the second on a 2-run Molly Haley double – but OIT got two runs back in the fourth on a pair of BU errors and added four in the fifth thanks to a 2-run Cook double and RBI singles from
Zoe Allen and
Kaila Mick.
The Owls put the game away with a 5-run sixth inning – more than enough runs for
Kacie Schmidt, who battled through rainy conditions for her tenth win of 2024.
Allen was 4-for-5 with two RBI, Staub was 3-for-4, with Mick and Milbourne each recording two hits.
Game 2 was scoreless heading into the fourth before the Lady Owls bats responded.
Lexi Klum lined a 2-out RBI single to give OIT the lead, while an inning later, Cook gapped an RBI triple to make it 2-0. Milbourne and
Jayce Seavert delivered back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth to push the lead to 4-0, with Tech scoring four times in the seventh to cap the day.
Staub went six shutout innings, limiting BU to three hits, fanning five, earning win No. 8. Six different Lady Owls had 2-hit games – Cook, Allen, Klum, Milbourne, Seavert and
Addison Kachnik.
Tech returns home next week for a 4-game series with Corban – with doubleheaders at Stilwell Stadium set for Thursday and Friday.
