Ramos Posts Double-Double in Home Loss to No. 24 SOU

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Southern Oregon used big runs in both halves to erase Oregon Tech leads, as the Raiders upset the Lady Owls, 75-68, at Danny Miles Court.

Meghan McIntyre scored a season-high 29 points for No. 24-ranked SOU (18-4, 14-2 CCC), who won their eighth-straight game – spoiling the first career double-double for OIT freshman Jozie Ramos.

The Lady Owls (19-3, 13-3) used a 9-2 run spanning the opening two quarters to take their largest lead of the night. Olivia Sprague canned a 40-foot 3-pointer to end the first period, with an Alexis Elquist runner extending the margin to 28-19 a minute into the second frame.

Southern clamped down defensively, holding Tech without a made field goal for an 8-minute stretch – as McIntyre fueled a 17-1 run with a pair of triples, adding four free throws, that gave the visitors a 36-29.  OIT was able close the margin to 37-36 at the break on a lay-up from Ramos at the buzzer.

OIT regained the lead in the third quarter, as Kennedy Tull canned a trey and Ramos scored on the block on consecutive possessions, grabbing a 45-40 lead. Unfortunately, Mallory Williams caught fire for the Raiders, scoring 10 points, including two big triples, in a 24-6 run that gave SOU their biggest lead at 64-53 with eight minutes left in the contest.

The No. 22-ranked Owls had one final flurry – as a 6-point possession, helped by a Raider technical foul, keyed a 10-0 run that cut the gap to 64-61. OIT had four chances to cut the margin further, but a turnover and three missed shots, coupled by Southern making 5-of-6 free throws ended the rally.

Ramos had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss, with Sprague scoring 15 points. Tull had 13 points and Elquist finished with 10 points and nine boards.

McIntyre added seven rebounds and five assists in the victory for SOU, with Williams scoring 13 and Kami Walk adding 11 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lady Owls continue their homestand Friday, hosting Evergreen State at 5:30 p.m. It is the annual Blackout For Hunger – as fans are asked to wear black and bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Klamath-Lake Counties Food Bank – with the first 400 fans to donate receiving a commemorative t-shirt.
