Hustlin' Owls Outlast Corban, Clinch Home Playoff Game

SALEM, Ore. – Guards Jamison Guerra and Kam Osborn each scored 17 points, helping Oregon Tech outlast a second half flurry from Corban University, as the Hustlin' Owls ran their win streak to seven with a 79-74 victory over the Warriors inside C.E. Jeffers Center.

OIT (21-4, 16-3 CCC) secured a Cascade Conference Tournament quarterfinal home date with the win, keeping pace with Lewis-Clark State in second-place in the league standings.

The Owls made 57-percent of their field goals – the seventh-straight game with a field goal percentage of 50-percent or better – setting a new school record. Tech finished 9-of-16 from 3-point range and made 12-of-14 free throw attempts, including a perfect 6-of-6 in the second half.

Tech dominated the opening 20 minutes – starting the game 6-for-6 from the field. Osborn connected on three consecutive 3-pointers, Keegan Shivers added a floater and a triple, with an Erik Fraser lay-up giving the visitors a 16-2 lead in the first four minutes.

The margin grew to 49-28 at the break and two Blake Jensen free throws three minutes into the second half gave the Owls their largest lead at 53-29.

The Warriors (15-9, 12-7) didn't waver – scoring 25 points off OIT turnovers and rode forward Collin Warmouth, who scored 12 points in a 22-6 run – cutting the deficit to 59-51. Warmouth canned a triple and Jay Wilson converted a conventional 3-point play, with Corban getting within 67-64 with five minutes remaining.

OIT turned to their veterans, as Guerra splashed a 10-footer in the paint, Fraser curled home a fade-away jumper and Osborn knocked down a contested 15-footer, extending the margin to 73-64. Corban got within 75-72 inside the final minute, but Guerra ended the game by making 4-straight free throws inside the final 30 seconds to close out the win.

Guerra added seven assists in the win, with Osborn going 7-of-12 from the field. Shivers scored all 12 of his points in the first half, with Jensen scoring 10 points, adding seven rebounds.

Warmouth led all players with 25 points and Wilson posted 18 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

The Owls close out their road schedule tomorrow, traveling to Bushnell for a 5 p.m. match-up.
