Tech Wins 8th-Straight, Stop Bushnell 95-88

EUGENE, Ore. – Kam Osborn converted a 3-point play with 24 seconds remaining, part of a 19-point night, helping Oregon Tech run their win streak to 8-in-a-row, stopping Bushnell University, 95-88, inside the Morse Event Center.

The No. 16-ranked Hustlin' Owls (22-4, 17-3 CCC) remain locked in a second-place tie with Lewis-Clark State – heading into Friday afternoon's showdown at Danny Miles Court – with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Beacons (15-11, 12-8) erased a 13-point first half deficit with an 8-0 second half run – getting triples from Stevie Schlaback and Cory Johnson to pull within 64-63 midway through the second half. Kaden Sand gave BU their first lead with a steal and basket and the hosts claimed a 76-75 edge with eight minutes remaining.

Tech responded with Jamison Guerra, who converted 3-straight tough baskets on the block, adding a Jackson Cooper transition lay-up to regain an 87-82 lead.

BU pulled within 89-86 on a Trevon Richmond runner, but Osborn provided the clinching bucket, attacking the Beacons' 6-foot-11 post Spencer Hoffman, drawing contact and banking home the runner to put the game out of reach.

OIT opened the game on a 17-8 run, getting a pair of inside lay-ups from both Blake Jensen and Kody Bauman, along with triples from Osborn and Keegan Shivers. Osborn would push the lead to 42-29 with a lay-up late in the period, before the Becaons closed the half on a 7-0 run to get within 49-44.

The Hustlin' Owls converted 57-percent of their field goal chances – extending their school-record string of games making 50-percent or better of their field goals to eight. OIT held a 33-28 rebound edge, made 14-of-16 free throws and committed just eight turnovers in the win.

Guerra scored 17 points with nine rebounds, Bauman had 16 points off the bench, Shivers tallied 15, with both Jensen and Cooper scoring 11.

The Beacons were paced by Schlabach, who led all scorers with 26 points – moving the senior 23 points away from 2,000 for his BU career.
