Tech Runs Win Streak to Six, Rallies Past Northwest, 93-82

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech shook off a slow start behind big nights from Keegan Shivers and Kam Osborn, as the Hustlin' Owls won their sixth-straight, stopping Northwest University, 93-82, at Danny Miles Court.

OIT (20-4, 15-3 CCC) remained tied with Lewis-Clark State in second-place in the league standings – with the 20-4 start the best by the club in 12 seasons (2011-12 NAIA Championship team began the year, 21-3).

Tech hit 59-percent of their second half field goals – finishing the night 52-percent from the floor, their sixth-straight game with a 50-percent or better field goal percentage.

The Owls built a 31-23 first half lead on a Shivers transition lay-up – but the Eagles (6-18, 5-13) did not go away. Trent Williams hit a 3-pointer and Nash Wobrock capped an 8-0 run with a 3-point play, as the visitors pulled even.

NU stunned the home crowd by grabbing a 56-51 lead five minutes into the second half – but Tech turned to their veteran line-up, scoring 17 of the next 18 points in a 5-minute flurry. Kody Bauman converted twice on the block, to give OIT the lead, with Jay Elmore and Shivers canning triples and Erik Fraser knocking down a jumper to give the hosts a 68-57 lead.

The Eagles got within 81-74 with four minutes remaining on a Lewis Pope lay-up, but Osborn responded with a 3-pointer and Tech closed out the win at the foul line – finishing 21-of-28 from the stripe.

Shivers scored 21 points with six rebounds, while Osborn scored 20. Jamison Guerra had 12 points and eight assists, with Bauman scoring 12 off the bench.

Manuel Zapater led NU with 20 points and 10 rebounds, with Pope and Wobrock each scoring 16. The Eagles finished with a 37-35 edge on the glass, but committed 20 turnovers, with OIT turning the mistakes into 29 points.

The Owls close out the road portion of their schedule next weekend, traveling to the Willamette Valley for games at Corban and Bushnell.
