KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Southern Oregon closed the game on an 11-0 run, rallying from a 19-point second quarter deficit to top upset-minded Oregon Tech, 65-58, before a boisterous crowd at Danny Miles Court on Military Appreciation Night.
The No. 4-ranked Raiders (9-0, 3-0 CCC) converted 67-percent of their second half field goals – after Tech had held the squad without a made field goal for the first six minutes of the contest.
OIT (6-3, 2-1) had a near-perfect start – opening the game on a 16-0 run.
Alexis Elquist had a lay-up and 3-pointer,
Kennedy Tull splashed consecutive triples, with
Gabbie Gascon and
Maddyson Tull adding buckets to grab the big advantage. The Lady Owls took their biggest lead of the night in the second quarter on a
Jozie Ramos 15-footer, extending the margin to 24-5 and had a 31-18 lead at the break.
Ramos pushed the Tech lead to 40-24 early in the third quarter, only to watch SOU score 14-straight – including a pair of Bridgette McIntyre 3's and consecutive 3-pointers from Mallory Williams.
Tatum Schmerbach canned a triple with just over three minutes to play in the contest, giving the hosts a 58-54 edge – but the Lady Owls finished the night by missing their final five field goals and had two turnovers in the stretch. Eliza DiGulio tied the game with a transition basket, with a driving basket from Meghan McIntyre giving the Raiders their first lead at 60-58. Emma Schmerbach had the biggest play for the visitors, intercepting a pass near mid court and converting a lay-up at the other end to make it 62-58.
Ramos led OIT with 13 points, Elquist scored 10 and
Tatum Schmerbach had eight points, six rebounds and five assists. The Owls ended the night making 37-percent of their field goals.
Bridgette McIntyre led SOU with 14 points, Emma Schmerbach had 13 points and seven boards, with Morgan Baird scoring all 10 of her points in the second half.
Both teams hit the road to the Valley next weekend for games at Bushnell and Corban.
