KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Manny Garcia scored a pair of goals and
Cash Cota added a goal and an assist, as Oregon Tech earned their biggest win of 2024, topping defending Cascade Conference Tournament champ, College of Idaho, 3-1, at the blustery OIT Soccer Field.
The Hustlin' Owls (5-5, 2-3 CCC) snapped a two-match losing streak, scoring on their only three shots on frame in the contest.
"I am happy for the boys," said OIT head coach
Sean McManamon. "We put in a shift and fought for each other. We are capable of great things when we stay as a unit."
Tech struck early, as an 11th-minute defensive miscue by the Coyotes (5-2-1, 3-2) allowed Cota to win a ball 30 yards from goal – touching a through-ball to the charging Garcia, who drove a shot just inside the left post.
Ten minutes later, Cota capitalized on a failed clearance deep in the C of I defensive third, collecting a loose ball, taking one touch and ripping a left-footed shot to the back post for a 2-0 lead.
OIT pushed the margin to 3-0 in the 62nd minute, as
Lennyn Solis played a long free kick, finding Reese Fletcher, who played a one-time cross to Garcia at the back post, with the transfer slotting home his second goal.
C of I held a 10-6 edge in shots and a 7-1 lead in corner kicks, but the OIT defense held the top-scoring team in the CCC without a goal until the final five minutes when Jorge Fernandez tallied an unassisted goal.
The Owls close out the weekend tomorrow, hosting Eastern Oregon at 2:30 p.m.
"Half of the weekend is done," McManamon said. "We have to finish it off tomorrow with another full 90-minute performance."
