EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon Tech used a dominant effort at the net and the service line to earn a crucial victory at Bushnell University, stunning the Beacons in three sets inside the Morse Event Center.
The Lady Owls (15-11, 8-10 CCC) ended a 6-match losing streak to their league rivals, with the 25-22, 25-19, 25-21 win their first on Bushnell's home floor since 2019.
OIT had a 13-6 edge in total blocks, recorded seven aces and capitalized on 11 serving errors by the Beacons (16-10, 11-7).
Molly Grace had nine kills, 12 digs and four aces,
Lex Boccia recorded nine kills and five blocks,
Tiana Barrett posted five kills and six blocks, with
Aleksen Thayer leading all players with seven blocks in the victory.
Boccia dominated Set 1 – recording five kills in the set, including a cross-court winner to cap a 5-1 run that gave the Lady Owls a 23-21 lead. Following a side out, Thayer and
Courtney Green stuffed a Beacons attack attempt and Bocca followed with a kill to compete the set win.
OIT never trailed in Set 2, as Barrett recorded a pair of blocks in an opening 8-3 run. Bushnell pulled within 18-15 on a Hailey Heider kill, but Thayer answered with consecutive kills and a block to stop the Beacons rally.
In Set 3, the Beacons took a 14-13 edge on a Heider kill, but a key Boccia-Barrett block started a 6-1 run, capped by consecutive aces from Grace – as Tech closed the upset win.
Lucy Boyd directed the attack, finishing the night with 28 assists and nine digs, while
Kaley Whalen led all players with 26 digs.
Heider led the Beacons with 11 kills and 13 digs, with Amyah Semau recording 10 kills and 14 digs – but the hosts were limited to a .047 attack percentage by Tech.
The Owls return home next weekend, hosting Warner Pacific on Friday and Multnomah on Saturday night.
