2024 Women's Soccer Notebook (Week 9)

COMING UP: vs. University of Providence, Friday, 12 p.m.; vs. Carroll College, Saturday, 12 p.m.

COMPLETE WEEKLY MEDIA NOTEBOOK

GAME DAY INFORMATION: For fans unable to make it to Klamath Falls for the weekend matches, both games will be streamed live on the Owls Sports Network, with the match featuring Live Stats through OIT's SIDEARM Stats Portal. Fans in attendance are asked to park in the OIT Soccer Field parking lot off industrial way – no parking is available near Boivin Hall east of the facility.

MULTIMEDIA: All photos from the 2024 season, including pictures from the last home match vs. Eastern Oregon, are posted online via the OIT Women's Soccer Flickr Page, while highlight clips, along with full-game replays available online via the OIT Women's Soccer YouTube Channel.

OPPONENT PREVIEW – U. OF PROVIDENCE: The weekend opens against the University of Providence, as the Argos (5-6-1, 2-5 CCC) look to snap a 5-match losing streak, along with a 6-match losing streak to OIT. UP's stats are a bit skewed, as the Argos hold a 26-23 edge in total goals, but 10 of the goals were recorded in a rout of a first-year Walla Walla team. Forward Ernestina Serwaa Ofo (9 goals, 2 assists) is a difficult mark for any defense, with Kailey Camper (5 goals), Malan Flygaro (3 goals, 2 assists), Andriah Watson (2 goals, 1 assist) and Brookyln Poole (2 goals, 1 assist) all contributors. Keeper Chloe Pajaro (1.94 GAA) has stopped nearly 80-percent of shots on frame. OIT holds a 9-1-2 all-time series lead on UP, including a 4-0-2 mark in the Basin.

OPPONENT PREVIEW – CARROLL COLLEGE: The Owls look to knock off the team directly above them in the CCC standings, as third-place Carroll College heads to the Basin. The Fighting Saints (7-3-3, 4-2-1) had a 5-match win streak (outscoring opponents 26-0) snapped last weekend, losing 5-2 at College of Idaho and 1-0 at Eastern Oregon. The Montana school has outscored teams 40-15 (with 22 goals coming in wins over Walla Walla and Multnomah), thanks to the play of Delaney Mozcan (11 goals, 2 assists), Rachel McAllister (5 goals, 1 assist), Deanna Lord (4 goals, 2 assists) and Emily Funseth (3 goals, 5 assists), with the defense paced by keeper Maria Ackerman (1.16 GAA). Carroll has a 10-4 series edge, including back-to-back wins in Helena, but the Owls take a 3-game win streak in home games into Saturday's contest.

TOUGH HALF IN BILLINGS: Tech saw their losing streak reach three games with a 4-2 setback at Rocky Mountain, as the Battlin' Bears scored a pair of second half goals to break a halftime tie. RMC benefited from a first half penalty kick – with the final goal of the match an OIT owl goal.

JACOBSON ADDS TO GOAL TOTAL: Leading scorer Kiana Jacobson posted her eighth goal of 2024, pulling the Lady Owls even just before halftime at RMC. The senior hit a shot off the right post, with the rebound falling directly to her feet in front of the goal mouth, touching home the sitter. Jacobson is the 19th OIT player to record 8-or-more goals in a season and first since Maddie Miller accomplished the feat in 2022.

LEWIS CONVERTS: For the ninth time in 13 matches, OIT scored the opening goal, as Brianna Lewis tallied her second goal of the 2024 season. Lewis collected a ball redirected by a Rocky defender 35 yards from goal, making a move to the right and driving a liner inside the far left post. The senior equaled her scoring total from last year (11 points) – recording two goals and seven assists thus far in 2024 after recording four goals and three helpers last year.

STARTERS + 90: Six players have been mainstays in the starting 11, as Sydni Nakamura, Carly Moss, Kara Morris, Chloe Cook, Brianna Lewis and Kiana Jacobson have started each of the 13 games. Of the six, Moss is the lone player to see action in all 1,170 minutes, with Nakamura (1,141) and Morris (1,140) sitting out just one half of a half. Three other players have competed in 900-or-more minutes in 2024 – Cook (960), Kaylee Hashizaki (931) and Jaylee Curran (901).

WINNING RECORD: The Lady Owls enter weekend play with an 8-4-1 overall record, needing one win to secure a .500 or better record for the 15th time in 25 years of women's soccer at OIT. With two victories, Tech will reach the 10-win mark for the 12th time and first time since the 2021 season.

SUCCESS ON THE TURF: During the 25 seasons of women's soccer at OIT, the Lady Owls are 110-60-18 in matches played in Klamath Falls. Since the school installed turf at the on-campus venue in 2017, Tech has been nearly unbeatable, recording a 41-6-7 mark (.824 win percentage).

AROUND THE LEAGUE: College of Idaho took control of the Cascade Conference standings with a 5-2 win over Carroll, taking a 2-game lead over Eastern Oregon heading into their showdown this weekend in La Grande. Both Carroll and OIT hold a 1-game lead on three teams that sit in a tie for fifth-place with three weeks left in the regular-season. This weekend, along with Carroll and Providence making the trip to Southern and OIT, Bushnell and Corban make the short trip to Warner Pacific and Multnomah, with Rocky Mountain off to Northwest and Evergreen State.

TOURNAMENT TO BE PLAYED CLOSE TO HOME: After a nine-year run in Springfield, the Cascade Conference Championships has changed venues – with the 8-team event heading to Medford and the Lithia & Driveway Fields Complex. Quarterfinal dates are set for Sunday, Nov. 10, semifinal games will be played Tuesday, Nov. 12, with the title game set for Thursday, Nov. 14. All CCC Tournament games will be streamed through Table Rock Sports.

LEAGUE LEADERS: As a team, the Lady Owls rank No. 1 in the CCC in shutouts (6), No. 2 in assists per game (1.62), No. 4 in shots per game (15.85), goals per game (2.00) and goals against average (1.08), No. 6 in corner kicks per game (4.15), No. 7 in fouls per game (6.77), with the team recording the fewest number of cautions (3) in the league. Individually, Brianna Lewis leads the CCC in assists (7) and assists per game (0.54), ranking No. 4 in shots (36), No. 7 in shots per game (2.77) and No. 10 in points (11); Sydni Nakamura is tied for the league lead in shutouts (5) and is No. 5 in goals against average (1.10); Kiana Jacobson is No. 3 in goals scored (8), No. 4 in total points (18) and No. 6 in goals per game (0.62); with Sydney Soskis No. 4 in assists (4) and No. 6 in assists per game (0.31).
