BILLINGS, Mont. – Rocky Mountain broke a halftime tie with a pair of second half goals, as the Battlin' Bears topped Oregon Tech, 4-2, in a rare Sunday Cascade Conference women's soccer contest at Wendy's Field.
RMC (5-3-1, 3-2-1 CCC) won for the third-straight time, while the Lady Owls saw a losing streak reach three.
An eventful first half turned into a defensive struggle over the final 45 minutes, with the hosts capitalizing on a 58th-minute set piece, as Emma Lensing flicked home a free kick from just outside the box by Georgia Dean. Rocky added an insurance goal late in the match, as a corner kick was redirected into the goal by an OIT defender.
The Lady Owls (8-4-1, 4-3) opened the scoring in the 17th-minute, as
Brianna Lewis jumped on a failed clearance by the RMC defense, slotting home the first goal of the match. Rocky would score a pair of goals midway through the period to grab the lead – as Mya Maack scored off a quick cross in the 21st minute and Dean converted a penalty kick following a foul in the box.
Tech got even just before the break, as
Kiana Jacobson ripped a shot off the crossbar, but calmly redirected the rebound into the net for her eighth goal of the year.
Rocky finished with a 12-10 edge in shots, with Bears keeper Hannah Trumbull and OIT keeper
Sydni Nakamura each recording four saves.
OIT returns home for the next three matches – starting Friday against the University of Providence.
