LA GRANDE, Ore. –
Molly Grace posted her tenth double-double of the year, as upset-minded Oregon Tech won the opening set vs. No. 3-ranked Eastern Oregon, but the Mountaineers battled back to claim a 4-set win at Quinn Coliseum.
The Lady Owls (12-10, 5-9 CCC) won Set 1, 25-21, but EOU responded to take the final three sets 25-22, 25-18, 25-17.
Tech broke a 15-15 tie in the opener, getting a kill from
Willow Jacobson, an Eastern attack error and an
Alison Miller ace to grab a lead, with Grace powering home a kill to end the set.
The Mounties (19-2, 11-2) had to battle to win the final three sets. OIT took a 16-14 lead in Set 2 on a
Savanna Sterck kill, but EOU scored 6-straight points to take control of the period and claim the win, while in Set 3, a 5-0 run broke a 11-11 tie. The final set had 12 ties, the last at 16-16, before the hosts scored nine of the final 10 points of the match.
Grace led all players with 16 kills, adding 11 digs, Sterck had 10 kills, with both Jacobson and
Aleksen Thayer logging six kills and five blocks.
Lucy Boyd had 36 assists for OIT, with
Kaley Whalen finishing with 19 digs.
Ashton Bales led EOU with 12 kills and Kiauna Mack posted 11 kills and eight digs.
Tech returns home next week, hosting Walla Walla on Friday afternoon and Lewis-Clark State on Saturday afternoon.
