Lady Owls Win Streak Snapped at No. 7-Ranked LC State

LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State closed the first half on a 17-2 run, breaking open a close game, as the No. 7-ranked Warriors snapped an Oregon Tech 14-game win streak in an 88-71 decision inside P1FCU Activity Center.

LC (13-2, 9-1 CCC) made 54-percent of their field goals in the win as five players scored in double-figures.

The Lady Owls (14-1, 8-1) jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the opening three minutes, as Gabbie Gascon canned a triple and Olivia Sprague scored twice in transition. LC answered behind Callie Stevens, who scored 10 points in the first quarter – as the Warriors rallied to take a 25-20 lead at the break.

Tech got within 27-25 on a Tatum Schmerbach jumper early in the second quarter, but the Lady Owls went cold from the field, missing 12 of their final 13 shots of the period. Post Darrian Herring scored 6-straight points and Tatum Brager hit the first of four 3-pointers in the game-changing run for the hosts – as their lead never dropped below 15 points the rest of the way.

Sprague led all scorers with 25 points in the loss for the Lady Owls, her sixth game of the season with 20-or-more points, with Gascon scoring 21 – the third time in four games with 20-plus points. Schmerbach had eight points and seven boards, with Jozie Ramos scoring seven points with eight rebounds.

Stevens led LC with 17 points, Brager scored a career-high 15 points, Sitara Byrd added 14 and Maddie Holm finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

OIT returns home next weekend for a pair of games – starting Friday night  with the 14th-annual Sky Lakes Breast Health Services Pink Out against Bushnell – with the first 1,000 fans receiving a special Pink Out t-shirt.
