CALDWELL, Idaho – A second half rally came up one goal short, as league leading College of Idaho made a 3-goal lead stand up, topping Oregon Tech, 3-2, at Simplot Stadium.
The Yotes (7-1-1, 6-0 CCC) remained unbeaten in conference play, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first 50 minutes – thanks to goals from Jorge Hernandez, Joao Bastos and Hugo Gonzalez.
However, Tech (5-3-2, 3-2-1) mustered a second half comeback to make it interesting. In the 56th minute,
Andrew Pasang collected a loose ball in the right side of the box, made a quick move and drove home a 12-yard left-footed blast to put the Owls on the board – ending C of I's 6-match shutout streak.
With 10 minutes remaining, OIT cut the deficit to a goal – as
Brock Rideout made a short cross from right-to-left across the 6-yard-box, finding an unmarked
Hunter Hoogerwerf, who lined a shot into the left corner of the net.
Unfortunately for the Hustlin' Owls, the C of I defense would not allow another shot.
Tech finished the evening with an 11-10 edge in shots.
The Owls return home next weekend for matches Friday vs. Rocky Mountain and Sunday vs. Walla Walla.
