Freshman Scores Twice, But Late Goal Sinks Hustlin' Owls

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Two second half goals from Dalton Rideout erased a 2-0 deficit, but Corban University scored the game-winning goal inside the final four minutes, as the Warriors topped the Hustlin' Owls, 3-2, at the OIT Soccer Field.

Against the run of play, Irwin Leon made a long run up the left side of the field, playing a cross to Samuel Montes, who ripped a one-time, 30-yard shot into the upper corner of the net with three and a half minutes remaining.

Tech (5-2-1, 3-1 CCC) nearly tied the score in the final minute, but a Brock Rideout header was stymied by Corban back-up keeper Miguel Trujillo.

"Today was not our best performance, but we will be okay," said OIT head coach Sean McManamon. We are a great team and we know we are a great team. We have to learn from this and move forward to next week."

The Warriors (1-3-3, 1-1-1) opened the scoring in the 11th-minute, as Gian Gargurevich led a counterattack, launching a 35-yard dart into the right corner of the net.  The margin would grow to 2-0 early in the second half, as Bryan Nicolas played a long thru-ball behind the Tech defense, finding Leon, who converted in a 1-v-1 situation.

OIT turned to the freshman, as Rideout scored his first collegiate goal in the 60th-minute, flicking home a cross from the left side of the field from Yuki Enomoto. Four minutes later, Tech squared up the match, as Cooper Hunt touched a pass off an Andrew Pasang corner to an unmarked Rideout, driving home the equalizer.

The Owls had multiple chances to add to their score – holding a 14-9 edge in total shots. Enomoto had a shot in the 18th minute clang off the crossbar, while in the 72nd minute, Hunt lined a shot in traffic that the Corban defense cleared off the goal line. Unfortunately, the visitors made enough played to earn the three points.

Next week, Tech hits the road for matches at Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho.
