KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A week after No. 1-ranked Eastern Oregon fell on the road, Oregon Tech looked to pull the second big upset in Cascade Conference play. Behind 20 kills and 15 digs from
Molly Grace, the Lady Owls rallied to force a fifth set before No. 4-ranked Corban outlasted the hosts, 25-15, 25-17, 23-25, 23-25, 15-8, inside Danny Miles Court.
All-America hitter Rylee Troutman had 29 kills and 14 digs to pace the Warriors (14-2, 8-0 CCC), who were forced to a fifth set for the first time in league play.
After dropping Set 3 and Set 4, the Warriors opened the decisive fifth set on an 8-2 push and were never headed – using three aces and three blocks to complete the road win.
Corban looked to roll to a match win – using a 10-2 run to end Set 1 – combining for five blocks in the period, with Troutman recording seven kills and a pair of aces in the Set 2 victory.
The Lady Owls (6-9, 4-4) had other intentions – erasing a 12-9 deficit in Set 3 behind a big kill and stuff block from
Kate Hicks, part of an 8-2 run. After the Warriors cut the OIT lead to 20-19,
Willow Jacobson powered down a pair of kills and
Paige Tevelde capped the set with a quick set over the net for a kill.
The two teams went back and forth in Set 4, combining for 13 ties – the last at 23-23. OIT earned set point following a Grace kill, before Grace and
Aleksen Thayer combined on a block at the left pin to send the match to a final set.
Grace posted her second-straight match with 20 kills, with the 15 digs a new career-high. Jacobson had nine kills, with Hicks adding eight, Tevelde recorded a season-high 38 assists and
Kaley Whalen led all players with 19 digs.
Makayla Roginski had 13 kills and four blocks for the Warriors, with Allyson Reid adding 10 kills and six blocks.
Tech returns to the court on Saturday, hosting Bushnell at 6 p.m.
