PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech opened the Cascade Conference men's soccer schedule in convincing fashion, blanking Multnomah University, 2-0, at Williford Field.
Goals from
Ellis Harwood and
Cooper Hunt provided the offense for the Hustlin' Owls (3-1-1, 1-0 CCC), while
Ryan Solis and the defense recorded the third clean sheet of the 2023 season.
"What a great team win," said OIT head coach
Sean McManamon. "The boys played well and buried their opportunities. They recognized what Multnomah provided and we countered it well. The focus is now onto tomorrow's match-up with Warner."
Tech opened the scoring in the 14th minute, as
Hunter Hoogerwerf took a through-ball in space and was 1-on-1 with Lions (3-3, 0-1) keeper Pablo Mendoza. Hoogerwerf drew the keeper out, touching a pass to a wide open Harwood for the early goal.
OIT added to the lead midway through the second half, as
Ryan Pearson played a long throw-in to the area, finding the foot of Hunt – who flicked home the insurance tally.
The Owls defense did the rest, limiting MU to two shots over the final 45 minutes to complete the victory. Tech finished with an 11-8 edge in total shots – including six on frame – with both teams taking six corner kicks.
Tomorrow, Tech travels across town to square off with defending CCC champion, Warner Pacific, with kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m.
