KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – An inspired Oregon Tech squad stunned No. 19 Southern Oregon in the opening set, but the visiting Raiders rode 15 team blocks to an 18-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-18 win at Danny Miles Court.
Middle blocker Sadie Byrd had five kills and 11 blocks and opposite hitter Hannah Stadstad added seven kills and seven blocks for the Raiders (11-2, 4-1 CCC).
The Lady Owls (4-8, 2-3), coming off a home weekend sweep, used a 9-2 run to close the first set – forcing SOU into five hitting errors in the series – to grab the early lead.
Southern responded with the swing and the block – as Marin Mackey had four of her match-high 17 kills in an 11-3 Set 2 run that broke a 9-9 tie – helping the visitors even the match. Byrd and company took over Set 3, combining for seven blocks - including five in a 6-point run.
Tech made it interesting in Set 4, jumping out to an 8-2 lead. Mackey answered with three kills in a 9-2 run that gave SOU the lead, with the Raiders breaking away late with a 5-point push to secure the victory.
Molly Grace led OIT with 15 kills – her sixth double-digit kill match in her last seven and third-straight match with 15-or-more kills.
Kate Hicks had seven kills and five blocks, with both
Abigail Sorensen and
Kaley Whalen recording 14 digs.
Mackey had 12 digs in the win for the Raiders, with Savannah Schwindt coming off the bench to tally 10 kills.
Both teams hit the road to Portland this weekend for matches at Multnomah and Warner Pacific.
