Brace From Juarez-Flores Leads Tech Past Simpson, 3-0

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A three-goal flurry in the opening 30 minutes was the difference as Oregon Tech won their 2023 home opener, a 3-0 decision over Simpson University at the OIT Soccer Field.

Rosendo Juarez-Flores recorded a brace, Andrew Pasang assisted on all three goals and Dylan Nakagawa added a pair of helpers in the Hustlin' Owls (1-0-1) victory.

"The boys played so well and started strong," said head coach Sean McManamon. "Our quick play and rotations off the ball helped give us the early advantage and the boys recognized the right moments to break them down."

Tech took a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the match, as Nakagawa played a thru-ball to a waiting Pasang. The junior found an unmarked Juarez-Flores, who hammered a 15-yard strike into the upper right corner of the net.

The Owls added to the lead in the 15th minute, as Pasang made two nifty moves along the end line, playing a cross to a waiting Yuki Enomoto, driving home the sitter inside the box for his first OIT goal.

Ten minutes later, the Pasang-Nakagawa connection struck again, as Pasang played a quick ball to Nakagawa, who found a streaking Juarez-Flores behind the defense, with the senior beating Redhawks (1-3-1) keeper Daniel Morales to the right corner.

The OIT defense did the rest, withstanding eight second half corner kicks and three free kicks inside of 25-yards. Ryan Solis made five saves, including a kick-save on a Christhian Guevara drive in the second half and redirected a Christian Valdez chance wide of the target.

Both teams finished with nine shot attempts, with Simpson holding an 8-2 edge in corners.

Tech hits the road next weekend with road games in Phoenix at Arizona Christian and OUAZ.
