GLENDALE, Ariz. – Jose Garcia converted a 25-yard free kick with just over one minute remaining in the contest, lifting Arizona Christian to a 2-1 victory over Oregon Tech at the ACU Football Stadium.
The Firestorm (4-1) withstood a big second half push from OIT – as Tech held an 8-6 edge in shots after the intermission, but it was the hosts that earned three points.
A hard foul two paces outside the box gave Garcia the opportunity, a left-footed drive around the Hustlin' Owls (1-1-1) 4-man wall that eluded the waiting keeper,
Ryan Solis, for the game-winner.
ACU took the lead in the 29th minute, as Aiden Abbitt played a thru-ball to Marlon Arce, who slotted home his third goal of the season for the 1-0 edge.
Tech answered in the waning moments of the first half, as
Ryan Pearson lofted a long throw in from the right sideline into the 6-yard-box, finding the head of
Cooper Hunt for his first collegiate goal.
Both teams had opportunities throughout – as both Solis and ACU keeper Carlos Gallardo each logged six saves.
OIT will have Friday off in preparation for their final preseason encounter, a Saturday match-up at OUAZ.
