REDDING, Calif. –
Lexi Klum went 5-for-8 with three doubles on the day and Oregon Tech rode stellar pitching performances from
Mckenzie Staub and
Kacie Schmidt to wins over Simpson and Menlo at the Simpson Softball Field.
Staub went the distance for the Lady Owls (5-3) in the opener, taking a shutout into the seventh inning in a 7-1 win over Simpson, while Schmidt fanned 10 in five strong innings in an 8-1 win over Menlo.
Tech batted around for five runs in the second inning – loading the bases with one out.
Kaila Mick was hit by a pitch to force in a run,
Jayce Seavert walked to force in another,
Maggie Buckholz singled home a run and
Puakea Milbourne capped the rally with a 2-run single.
The OIT defense did the rest – as the Redhawks (7-4) hit into inning ending double plays in the first, second and fourth innings.
Zoe Allen put the game away in the seventh with a 2-run single, as Staub worked around seven hits for the victory. Buckholz and Allen each finished the game 2-for-3, with Klum going 2-for-4 – part of a 10-hit attack.
Big innings keyed the Game 2 win, as OIT scored a pair in the first – including a Seavert RBI double and added four runs in the third, including run scoring doubles from Klum and Allen. The lead grew to 8-0 in the fifth, as Klum ripped a 2-run double to the gap.
Schmidt did the rest, holding the Oaks (2-7) to two hits and a run over five innings – logging her second 10-strikeout game of the season.
Klum finished 3-for-4,
Addison Kachnik was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Buckholz added two hits in the win.
OIT closes out the preseason non-conference schedule tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader vs. Simpson.
