EUGENE, Ore. – A double-double from
Molly Grace was not enough for Oregon Tech, as Bushnell University clinched a home Cascade Conference Tournament first-round match with a 27-25, 25-20, 25-15 victory over the Lady Owls inside Morse Event Center.
The Beacons (15-10, 13-8 CCC) dominated the net, recording an 11-4 edge in total block, including seven blocks from Brooklynn Dechant.
The Lady Owls (12-16, 10-11) battled back from a first set deficit to take a 24-23 lead on a
Savanna Sterck kill, but BU fought off set point – ending the set with consecutive combo-blocks.
Tech bolted out to a 16-9 lead in Set 2, behind four kills from Grace – but the hosts countered with a 16-4 run to end the period – including the final five points of the set. BU dominated Set 3, turning a 9-4 lead into a 17-10 edge in completing the sweep.
Grace had 11 kills and 15 digs in the loss for OIT – who are locked into the No. 7 seed in the upcoming league tournament. The Owls would earn a rematch with Bushnell tomorrow with either a Northwest win over Warner Pacific or a Beacons loss to Southern Oregon.
