SALEM, Ore. – For the second time this season, Oregon Tech put a scare into No. 6-ranked Corban, winning the second set, before the Warriors outlasted the Lady Owls 26-24, 23-25, 25-16, 25-15 at C.E. Jeffers Center.
OIT (12-17, 10-12 CCC) finishes the regular-season in seventh-place in the Cascade Conference standings – earning a first-round CCC Tournament match-up on Tuesday night at sixth-place Bushnell. The winner of the match will head to La Grande, Ore., for the tournament quarterfinals.
Savanna Sterck had 15 kills, including three kills in an 11-3 run in Set 2, as the Lady Owls built a 20-12 lead. The Warriors (25-5, 19-3) used the tandem of Rylee Troutman and Allyson Reid to tie the score at 23-23, but a kill from
Willow Jacobson was followed by a Sterck kill – giving OIT the set win.
Corban outlasted Tech in an opening set that featured 11 ties – the last at 24-24 after consecutive Warrior hitting errors – but the hosts got a Makayla Roginski kill and an OIT hitting error to claim the set. The Warriors used big runs in both Set 3 and Set 4 to complete the home win – getting six kills from Troutman in Set 3, while using a 13-4 surge in Set 4 to end the match.
Jacobson had 10 kills in the loss for Tech, while
Kaley Whalen led all players with 20 digs – her fourth-straight match with 20-or-more digs.
Both Reid and Troutman led all players with 18 kills.
