KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – On a day to celebrate the five senior student-athletes, junior
Kara Morris stole the show – scoring her first collegiate goal to provide the winning margin, as Oregon Tech blanked Northwest University, 1-0, at the OIT Soccer Field.
The win for the Lady Owls (6-5-3, 5-4-2 CCC) secured their seventh-straight winning season and guaranteed no worse than the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Cascade Conference Championships.
In the 66th minute, following a run down the left side, Morris played a ball to the middle of the field, with fellow junior
Brianna Lewis touching a return pass. Morris continued the run, lining a 20-yard, left-footed shot into the upper left corner of the net, just past Eagles (8-6-2, 6-3-2) keeper Ria Schwartz.
The Tech defense held strong over the final 24 minutes – including a trio of NU chances inside the final moments. Keeper
Sydni Nakamura made a lunging save off a Gracie VanAssche point-black attempt, while the Lady Owls cleared two corner kick chances and a free kick by the visitors.
OIT controlled possession for the majority of the match, holding a 13-5 edge in total shots – with Schwartz keeping the Eagles in the match with six saves, including diving stops to deny drives from
Kiana Jacobson and
Shalynai Naputi.
The match marked the final home contest for Nakamura,
Kiah Wetzell,
Alexandra Trinidad,
Olivia Kreiser and
Karly White.
Tomorrow's schedule match vs. Evergreen State has been ruled a forfeit win for OIT – as the Geoducks are currently dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak within their program.
OIT will learn their opponent in the CCC Championships on Thursday afternoon.
