Â
ABOUT THE OPPONENT – CARROLL COLLEGE: A 3-game road trip, spanning two weekends, begins Friday at Carroll College, as the Fighting Saints (8-1-2, 5-1-1 CCC) are coming off their first loss of the season on Saturday vs. College of Idaho. The Montana school has outscored opponents 19-8 and attempted nearly twice as many shots as their foes (188-104). The duo of Emily Funseth (7 goals) and Delaney Moczan (3 goals, 1 assist) are the top two scoring options, with Jaymee Sheridan (1 goal, 3 assists) leading the squad in assists. Keeper Maria Ackerman (0.90 GAA, 33 saves, .805 S%) is the top option in goal.
Â
HISTORY VS. THE FIGHTING SAINTS: Nelson Stadium in Helena has not been kind to the Lady Owls over the years, as OIT is 0-6 at the grass surfaced 6,000-seat stadium on the Carroll campus. Last season, the Fighting Saints topped Tech, 2-0 – which snapped a string of 3-straight Lady Owl victories. Carroll holds the all-time series lead, 9-4, dating back to 2000.
Â
ABOUT THE OPPONENT – UNIVERSITY OF PROVIDENCE: The long trip to Montana closes in the Electric City and a Saturday match-up with the University of Providence. The Argos (2-8-1, 1-5-1) have dropped 4-in-a-row since a home victory over Warner Pacific – including consecutive 7-0 losses to College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon. UP has been outscored 51-10 by their opponents – with foes averaging 23 shots per game. Tina Serwaa Ofori (4 goals) is the top scorer for the Argos, with Dani Waialeale (2 goals) and Kailey Camper (3 assists) key contributors, while Maya Amundson (3.64 GAA, 53 saves, .679 S%) and Kam Nadeja (6.28 GAA, 36 saves, .581 S%) sharing time in goal.
Â
HISTORY VS. THE ARGOS: OIT will take a 5-match win streak against the University of Providence into Saturday's match, including last season's 4-1 victory over the Argos in Klamath Falls – holding an 8-1-2 series lead dating back to 2005. Tech is a perfect 3-0 in matches played in Great Falls, the last in 2001, a 3-1 OIT victory.
Â
OFF TO MONTANA: Tech will make their eighth all-time trip to the Treasure State, but instead of making the 850-mile trip between Klamath Falls and Helena, the Owls will fly from Medford to the Capitol City. It is the sixth time in the last seven seasons that OIT heads to Big Sky country (the Montana schools played in the Cascade Conference East Division during the 2021 COVID spring season), with the club recording a 5-6-1 overall record in the easternmost outposts.
Â
THREE KEY POINTS AT HOME: The Owls picked up their first victory of the season on their own pitch, a key 3-1 victory over Rocky Mountain. OIT improved to 1-1-1 at home this season and 36-4-7 since the artificial turf was installed at the facility in 2017.
Â
AN OWN GOAL: Tech opened the scoring against Rocky Mountain with help from the Battlin' Bears, as a cross by
Shalynai Naputi was cleared by RMC into their own goal. It marked the first own goal for the Lady Owls since the 2018 season in a road win against Evergreen State.
Â
NAPUTI DOUBLES UP: Forward
Shalynai Naputi was key to the Lady Owls second half rally vs. Rocky Mountain, assisting on both goals – the second multi-assist game by an OIT player in the last two seasons (
Karly White had two assists vs. Bushnell in 2022). Naputi played a cross to an unmarked
Brianna Lewis for the go-ahead tally, while late in the match, she touched a pass to
Kayla Ness in the box, finishing an insurance goal.
Â
A FULL 90: Ten matches into the 2023 season and five players on the OIT roster have played in 800-or-more minutes this season – including keeper
Sydni Nakamura, who has yet to leave a match, playing all 900 minutes. Freshmen outside backs
Chloe Cook (873) and
Kaylie Hashizaki (841), center back
Karly White (806) and defensive midfielder
Miranda Valle (810) are also a part of the 800-minute club.
Â
PLAYOFF PICTURE WITH THREE WEEKS LEFT: The Lady Owls currently sit alone in eighth place in the Cascade Conference table with three weeks left in the regular season – with the top eight teams in league earning bids to the CCC Championships. Tech has a one-point lead (and head-to-head tiebreak) on ninth-place Warner Pacific and will face two teams below them in the standings (Providence and Evergreen State) in the final three weeks of the year. Southern Oregon sits one point ahead of OIT in the table – with the two teams set to meet next Friday in Ashland. The CCC Championships are set for November 6-10 in Springfield, Ore.
Â
AROUND THE CONFERENCE: College of Idaho continued their dominance of the circuit, sweeping the tough Providence-Carroll road swing and have climbed to No. 15 in the latest Top-25 poll. This week, C of I will host their rivalry game with Eastern Oregon. Carroll and UP will host OIT and Southern Oregon, Rocky Mountain welcomes Evergreen State and Northwest, with Bushnell and Corban hosting Warner Pacific and Multnomah.
Â
CONFERENCE NUMBERS: As a team, the Lady Owls lead the CCC in fewest fouls per game (5.60), No. 5 in shutouts (4), No. 6 in goals against average (1.10), No. 7 in shots per game (11.20), ranking No. 9 in both goals per game (1.10) and assists per game (0.70). Individually,

Kiana Jacobson is No. 10 in goals scored (4); with
Shalynai Naputi is No. 9 in shots per game (2.80).

Kiah Wetzell is No. 15 in goals scored (14) and No. 16 in points scored (34).
Â
