KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Facing the No. 6 ranked team in the NAIA, Oregon Tech battled Corban University swing-for-swing for three sets, however, the visiting Warriors claimed a hard-fought 25-20, 25-20, 26-24 victory at Danny Miles Court.
Kaylin Talonen posted a season-high 21 kills for the Lady Owls (6-6, 3-3 CCC), but Corban rode three players with double-figure kills to the win.
"I am proud of our serving and engagement level this evening," said OIT head coach
Ken Murczek. "Corban's outside hitters really hurt us. We will need to rebound and prepare for another tough match tomorrow against Bushnell."
Rylee Troutman had 18 kills, Avari Ridgway had 13 kills and 12 digs, with Makayla Roginski adding 11 kills for the Warriors (12-2, 5-1).
Corban opened the match by scoring nine of the first 11 points – with Roginski and Ridgway combining for five kills in the run. Talonen answered for Tech in a big way, smashing five of her eight kills in the set in an OIT 11-3 run that gave the hosts a 13-12 lead. The Owls had an 18-17 edge, but Troutman ripped three kills in a 5-1 Warriors push that paved the way to a set win.
The visitors cruised to a Set 2 win, using a 10-3 run early in the period to take a 13-7 lead that was never threatened.
OIT took their biggest lead of the match in Set 3, as an
Ashley Ripplinger kill and block gave the hosts a 12-9 edge. Corban tightened their block, as Allyson Reid recorded consecutive blocks in a 12-4 run that gave the Warriors a 21-16 lead. The Owls made one last push, as two Ripplinger kills and two from Talonen tied the score at 24-24. However, a Tech service error and an attack error ended the match.
Ripplinger had 10 kills with a .529 attack percentage for the Owls, with
Molly Grace adding eight kills.
Courtney Isom recorded 23 assists and nine digs, with
Aubrey Kievit posting a match-high 19 digs.
The Owls close out the weekend tomorrow, hosting Bushnell at 5 p.m
