KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Sarah Abramson tossed a 4-hit shutout and Oregon Tech made a 4-run fourth inning rally stand-up as the Lady Owls moved into the semifinals of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, with a 4-0 victory over College of Idaho at Stilwell Stadium.
The Owls (44-10) will face 15th-ranked Eastern Oregon tomorrow at 2 p.m. (live at OregonTechOwls.com and 104.3 & 960 Sports) – as EOU upset Southern Oregon in the final game of Day 1 of the tournament.
"Another strong performance from Sarah," OIT coach
Greg Stewart said. "We told the kids a game like this often comes down to one inning and we told them we liked how well they are competing and putting the ball in play."
A pitchers' duel between Abramson and the Yotes (38-14) Katie Wilfert reached the fourth, before the Lady Owls pieced together a big inning.
Maggie Buckholz was hit by a Wilfert pitch to start the frame and
Kennedy Jantzi reached on a bloop single that grazed off of Wilfert's glove.
Jayce Seavert moved the runners over for
Mckenzie Staub, who rapped a ball to second base – with Buckholz scoring ahead of Kylie Smith's throw home.
Aubrie Businger extended the lead to 2-0 with an RBI single and
Lexi Klum blooped a single to extend the margin.
Abramson did the rest, holding the Coyotes to just two hits over the final six innings – recording her third-straight shutout and her 11th of the season – as Tech improved to 5-0 this season against their Idaho counterparts.
Jantzi and Businger each had two hits for the Owls, as Tech improved to 18-1 on their home diamond this season.
Haley Loffer and Makenna Luke each had 2-for-3 games for the Yotes in the loss.
RECAPS:
Game 1 – College of Idaho 6, British Columbia 5 – Hattie Hruza capped a comeback win for the Yotes with a go-ahead 3-run fifth inning homer, helping erase a 5-1 T-Bird lead. Mia Valcke rapped two run-scoring doubles for UBC to build the big second-inning lead, but a Kylie Smith 2-run homer in the third and Hruza's blast rallied the Coyotes. Hannah McNerney tosses 5-plus innings of 2-hit shutout relief for the win.
Game 2 – Eastern Oregon 8, Corban 1 – Amanda Smith threw a 2-hitter, as EOU picked up their 40th win of the season. Madison Stateler had a pair of hits, including a run-scoring double, to lead the Mounties to the win.
Game 4 – Eastern Oregon 3, Southern Oregon 1 – Stateler smashed a fifth-inning 3-run home run to give EOU the lead, leading the Mounties to the upset win over the 2-time defending national champs. The Raiders plated an unearned run in the third, but a single and walk set the table for the EOU shortstop, who hammered a rise-ball over the left field wall. Smith did the rest, tossing a 3-hitter to end SOU's 17-game win streak.
