KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech made a statement in their quest for a Cascade Conference championship, completing a series sweep of College of Idaho with 11-0 and 5-1 victories at Stilwell Stadium.
Sarah Abramson tossed her second shutout of the weekend in Game 1, helping the No. 1-ranked Lady Owls (26-4, 12-0 CCC) knock the visiting Coyotes out of first-place in the league standings.
Playing in wet conditions, OIT batted around for eight runs in the third inning of the opener to provide the offense, while Abramson did the rest – limiting the third-ranked Yotes (22-6, 9-3) to just three hits and struck out five batters for her league-best 15th win.
The first nine Tech batters reached base in the third inning outburst – as a
Jensen Becker RBI double got the Lady Owls on the board, followed by an RBI single from
McKenna Armantrout.
Maggie Buckholz ripped a 2-run double with
Jayce Seavert and
Mckenzie Staub added RBI singles to complete the rally.
An inning later, Seavert put an exclamation point on the win, blasting a 3-run home run, her seventh of the year.
Both Buckholz and Seavert had two hits in the win, with Abramson limiting the Yotes to just two runners in scoring position.
"I an really proud of these ladies," said OIT head coach
Greg Stewart. "Another outstanding performance all the way around. Abramson and Staub were on point and we got clutch hitting up and down our line-up in both games."
In the nightcap, Tech built a 2-0 lead after four innings, with Becker lining a 2-out RBI double in the second and
Kennedy Jantzi launching a solo homer to left. The Yotes got a run back in the fifth on the strength of doubles from Hallie Holland and Makenna Luke, but Staub, who got the start in the circle coaxed a pop up to end the threat.
OIT answered in the bottom of the frame, as
Kaila Mick doubled and scored on a Buckholz squeeze bunt. Seavert followed by hitting her second homer of the day - a blast to left.
Staub struck out a season-high 10 batters, picking up her tenth win of the year, with Mick and Seavert each recording two hits. Holland had two hits in the loss for the Yotes.
Tech hits the road on Wednesday for a big CCC doubleheader at rival Southern Oregon, with first pitch from Ashland set for 2 p.m.
