Hustlin’ Owls End Firestorm Classic With a Win

TEMPE, AZ – The Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls (7-5) wrapped up their weekend road trip with a big win over the Arizona Christian Firestorm (10-3). Tech got a strong performance on the hill from Cody Dubray that complemented a four-run sixth inning.

Following the victory, HC Jacob Garsez said: "We had a solid pitching performance by Cody, and Alex did a great job closing the door. As a team, we got back on track playing Tech Baseball today… not because we won… it was how well we competed pitch to pitch."

Looking to avenge a 21-8 loss to Arizona Christian on Thursday, Tech used a huge sixth inning to steal a win over the hosts.

Through five innings, Tech was held scoreless as Sergio Heguertty limited the Hustlin' Owls to just two hits.

However, OIT wouldn't go quiet for long. Trailing 1-0 in the top of the 6th, Tech exploded for four runs on three hits while also capilitiizing on an error and two hit by pitches.

The offensive onslaught gave Cody Dubray, Tech's starting pitcher, some much-needed run support.

After the big sixth inning, Dubray would trot out for one more frame, where he'd sit down the Firestorm batters in order.

Dubray would exit Saturday's affair, having thrown six innings, allowing only one run on three hits, while striking out five.

With a 4-1 lead, Alex Bratton would earn the save, throwing the final three innings. Bratton allowed no runs on two hits in his third appearance of the season.

Tech was led at the plate by Matthew Ortiz, who went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Hustlin' Owls will return to action next week when they travel up to Eugene to face off in a weekend slate with Bushnell and Corban.
